Enchanted Preseli Hills Pastel on Sanded Board 50cmx 60cm 

Foel Drygarn 
Foel Drygarn (hill of the three cairns). Situated on a desolate, bare hill in the Preseli Mountains is Foel Drygarn Hillfort, the largest hill fort in Pembrokeshire. 

Had to paint this as it lies at the back of my home, it is very atmospheric and has a strong sense of power and place.

The Preseli Mountains are very Tolkienesque and this hill and landscape definitely has something rather other-worldly about it. Legend says that there’s a hoard of gold beneath a flat stone known as Bwrdd y Brenin (‘King’s Table’). 

I hope this painting conveys the mystery of this place where the blue stones of stone henge originate from.
